Celebrate Chinese Culture in Boston
The Greater Boston Chinese Cultural Association (GBCCA) is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting Chinese culture and heritage, supporting the well-being of Chinese Americans, and providing opportunities to learn Chinese language, arts, and traditions.
With 70 years of history, GBCCA has built a legacy of community service, cultural exchange, and educational excellence across generations.
1956 — Established as a social club
1959 — Funded the first Chinese Language School in Newton
1963 — Officially incorporated as GBCCA
1960s — Launched the Chinese Family Camp
1972 — Founded Lexington Chinese Language School
1972 — Established the GBCCA Chorus
1978–1979 — Received federal grants for “Echoes of China” curriculum
1979 — Co-founded the Dragon Boat Festival on the Charles River
1970s — Participated in major cultural events across Greater Boston
1980 — Established Board of Directors and revised bylaws
1981 — Achieved tax-exempt nonprofit status
1982 — Opened first Activity Center in Weston
1982 — Founded Chelmsford Chinese Language School
1982 — Launched Evergreen Club for seniors
1986 — Founded New England Chinese Youth Summer Camp
1988 — Initiated Chinese Community Center planning
1980 — Established Board of Directors and revised bylaws
1981 — Achieved tax-exempt nonprofit status
1982 — Opened first Activity Center in Weston

1988 — Initiated Chinese Community Center planning
2000 — Received recognition from the City of Newton
2001 — Opened GBCCA Library
2001 — Raised $26,000 for 9/11 victims
2003 — Modernized First Night Zodiac lantern
2005 — Founded Huaxin School of Arts
2006 — Celebrated 50th Anniversary with original musical
2008 — Organized Sichuan earthquake relief ($180K raised)
2008 — Established annual GBCCA picnic
2010 — Established partnership with NECYSC
2011 — Upgraded building heating system
2020 — Temporarily closed due to COVID-19
2020 — Renovated first floor into multi-purpose hall
2021 — Participated in anti-Asian discrimination awareness events
2022 — Received $44,200 Cultural Council grant
2023 — Received $45,000 recovery grant
